Upwey Old School Village Hall, Dorset
This page gives brief details of some of the events and activities that happen at the hall.
The Hall's management host the AGM of the charitable trust every year. In 2026 it will be on 16th March.
This is a chance for any interested people to hear the reports and elect trustees for the year.
Each regular user group is entitled to nominate a representative member to become a trustee and help run the hall and put the views of their group and vote on issue that arise. There are usually about 4 meeting each year.
The Trust Deed also requires the AGM to vote in nominated people to become trustees, new people are very welcome to join the team and help keep the hall thriving.
The hall management team run a summer and an autumn craft show.
Details of these will appear in due course.
The Summer show runs from 11th to 19th July 2026
The festive autumn show runs on 7th & 8th November 2026.
There are various regular classes and groups active at the hall, details of these will appear below and on the calendar. Most calendar events have a website link on the entry.
Wood carvers meet to hone their skills, a Morris Side practice their moves and people learn their Yoga positions and meditations.
The Upwey Potters, who are based at the hall, run an annual exhibition with workshops, in 2026 as part of Dorset Art Weeks from 23rd May to 7th June.
Bill Crumbleholme runs the pottery classes at the hall.

This village group organises various activities and events in the village.
Famous for the Open Gardens in June, when the hall is used for art or local history displays and all the chairs and tables are stolen for use serving teas around the village!
A series of talks are being staged on Friday evenings, to entertain and educate the villagers and their guests.

The Upwey Wishing Well Cafe and Water Gardens.
The hall's neighbour is a splendid and famous cafe, winner of several tourism awards.
They use the hall occasionally as "overspill" for their events, such as wedding receptions.
They also run special activities at the hall, wreath making workshops and various celebrations on the ancient calendar.
The local artists, lead by Maggie Cooke, produce an annual "Well Dressing" to celebrate the well's pure spring water. Using clay covered boards, they apply materials to build up images of local themes each May Day. These last for several months.

There are regular sessions, as can be seen on the calendar, but there are many gaps, especially on Friday evenings and weekends.
